The Central Highlands Amateur Radio Club was formed in 1988 by amateurs across the Central Highlands. The first face-to-face meeting was held on 15 April 1989 at Mal VK4FPL's backyard in Clermont.
CHARC was the first club in Australia to link three voice repeaters in the early 1990s. The network has grown to more than 10 linked voice repeaters across Central Queensland, with a fixed link to Ipswich, APRS coverage on 145.175 MHz, and D-Star capability.
In 2018 the club proudly celebrated its 30th anniversary with members from across Queensland.
